40.62The Committee of Selection is appointed under Standing Order No 62. It selects and proposes to the House the names of the Lords Members to form each select committee of the House (except the Committee of Selection itself, any committee otherwise provided for by statute or by order of the House1 and, unless the Senior Deputy Speaker thinks otherwise, or two members of the committee request a meeting for that purpose, select committees on private business). It may propose the names of the Chairmen of such committees. The committee also selects and proposes to the House the panel of Deputy Chairmen of Committees for each session, and the members of certain other bodies referred to it by the Senior Deputy Speaker.2
