Provision for subsequent supplemental orders

28.35A provision may specify that if a Minister of the Crown should later move a motion for varying or supplementing either the order itself or a resolution of the Business Committee which has been previously agreed to by the House, debate on the motion should be concluded after a certain time. One hour is the time generally specified, and proceedings are exempted from the operation of the moment of interruption. Such a time limit is held to supersede the limit specified in Standing Order No 83.1

This provision is most commonly invoked in order to pass a supplementary order imposing a time limit on the consideration of the Lords amendments to the bill in question.2 Supplementary orders generally contain provision for the questions on agreeing with Lords amendments to be put en bloc when the guillotine falls.3
