Introduction to order and handing of business in the House of Commons

19.1This chapter's purpose is twofold: first, to describe items of business taken in the House of Commons Chamber in the order in which they are normally taken, and second, to set out the rules and conditions under which the less substantial items1 (ie excluding the orders of the day and notices of motion which generally form the main business of the day, and which are dealt with in other chapters) are brought before the House.

Footnotes

  1. 1. The rules relating to oral questions are dealt with in Chapter 22, though the manner in which such questions are taken in the Chamber is covered in this chapter.
